All-Female Officials Development Camp Wrap Up

By Chelsea Ward McIntosh and Danielle Buggé

The first Liberty Bell Games Female Officials Development Camp took place June 5 – 6 at the Ice Vault (Wayne, NJ) and featured and all-female staff and all-female camp participants.  The Camp was designed to provide 4-Official experience and to continue the officials’ development. Camp started with an introductory Zoom on Wednesday, June 2, to get to know one another, go over the tournament rules, and introduce not only the 4-Official system but also hybrid icing. Camp really got underway on Saturday when participants had a quick breakfast and then jumped right into games. One of the four officials on each of the morning games was an experienced official to help with quick tips and pointers during the game. Games ran as 2-25 min halves with ice cuts in between, and rink supervisors took the opportunity to provide feedback to the officials both between periods and after the games. Games continued throughout the weekend with each participant skating in four games: two as a referee and two on the lines. The Camp also included a classroom session on Saturday to review video clips from the morning games, outside positioning walk-throughs, and discussions on topics such as      overcoming mistakes, teamwork, and future development. At the end of the weekend, participants were provided 1-on-1 feedback on their performance including strengths, areas for improvement, and future development opportunities. Thank you to the staff and participants below for setting up this incredible event – we look forward to continuing this opportunity for years to come!
