Daniel Triano was a Level 2 official who lost his life after an automobile accident on June 15, 2016. He was 17 years old.

Triano was born and raised in Kenilworth, NJ. In addition to his being a referee, he also played for the New Jersey Devils Youth Club for 12 years, and was a 3-year varsity player for Jonathan Dayton High School's ice hockey team.

Triano volunteered as a junior coach with the New Jersey Dare Devils, a team made up of special needs players.

The Atlantic Amateur Hockey Association and the Atlantic District Officiating Program of USA Hockey, is pleased to offer a $1,000 scholarship in Triano’s name to a student who plans to continue their education beyond the 12th grade.

This year’s recipient is Brett Fyrer from Bethlehem PA, a Senior at Bethlehem Catholic High School.

Fyrer will be attending Belmont University in Nashville, TN for Audio Engineering. He will also be playing on the drum line for Vanderbilt University's band in the fall.

Fyrer has officiated for the past 4 years while also playing high school hockey at Bethlehem Catholic.

Congratulations to Brett Fyrer, and best wishes in your studies at Belmont!
